OUR PROCESS

The award follow a structured 3 step-process to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and prestige.

NOMINEES

Nominations start on April 7th — close on April 14th

The public is invited to nominate their favorite coffee shops and roasters. Additionally, our nomination jury—comprised of coffee enthusiasts, past winners, and industry professionals—selects notable contenders to ensure a well-rounded selection.

To Qualify

Nominee has to be owned by an independent person or group
Nominee has to be owned by a resident of the community, city or province.
Nominee has to engage mainly in coffee activities.
Nominee has to be open for at least 9 months.

NOMINATION

Nominees will be revealed on April 15th — when official voting goes live

The final nomination list is carefully curated by balancing public input with industry expertise. We consider the number of nominations each coffee shop receives while incorporating insights from our nomination committee to ensure quality is not solely driven by popularity. Previous winners are also taken into account to maintain a consistent standard of excellence. Where feasible, judges conduct mystery visits to evaluate coffee quality, service, and ambiance first hand. Ultimately, only the top 5 to 10 coffee shops per nomination are selected, ensuring that each finalist represents the best in their community.

VOTING

Winners will be revealed on May 3rd — at the awards Ceremony

The voting process balances community input and industry expertise. In the community vote, participants rank their top 3 nominees, with 5 points for first place, 3 points for second, and 1 point for third. To avoid a popularity bias, scores are normalized to ensure fairness. In the industry vote, professionals score nominees based on key attributes (e.g., coffee quality, service, ambiance), with each attribute receiving a score out of 10. These scores are also normalized for consistency. The final results are determined by combining both votes, with 50% from the community and 50% from the industry, ensuring a fair and comprehensive assessment of the nominees.
