Marua AA

Kenya has always been associated as a quality origin, used as a top-quality single origin on a coffee shop’s menu or as a quality blend component to bring complexity, acidity and sweetness to other origins of lower altitudes. Kenya coffee remains a crucial export commodity, supporting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and contributing to Kenya's global reputation in the specialty coffee industry. Marua Farmers Coop Society is a stand alone cooperative nestled in the middle of Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya and only approx. 10KM from Nyeri Town has 400 farmers with each owning approx. 200 coffee bushes. They are dedicated to producing premium coffee beans since 1963 with annual production exceeding 35MT of ripe cherries. The rich volcanic soil and ideal climate foster the growth of high-quality Arabica coffee beans, which get an extra crispness from being washed using water from River Sagana which starts its journey from the slopes of Mt. Kenya, resulting in a distinct and flavorful brew. This washed process coffee is full-bodied, with rich balance and deeply matrixes fruit. It has bright and lively acidity and contains notes that remind us of black currant, blood orange, and hibiscus.
