Karol Ortega
Huila is a southwestern department of Colombia. It is the country's biggest coffee producer, even though it is mostly composed of small farms. The secret behind their productivity is that the farms all have their small micro beneficio, or processing station.
This coffee is sourced from Karol Ortega in San Agustín, Huila. Karol is an inspiring young producer with a very small half-acre garden which allows her to really focus on quality. Her stated vision is to use coffee as a means to improve her quality of life and find recognition for her hard word. She is part of an initiative led by the Esnaider Ortega called Monkaaba. This group is currently working with growers of all levels of experience in San Agustín and Tarqui to cup and discuss in depth the challenges they are facing on the way to their goals and dreams.
The resulting cup reminds us of tropical fruits, watermelon and floral notes.
