Burundi Kayanza

Burundi coffee is almost entirely produced by smallholder farmers who are producing exceptional quality that is renowned globally. As of 2020, there were an estimated 600,000 smallholders active in the country. With a population of 11 million, this represents a figure of about 50% of the country’s population being in one way or another involved in coffee production and trade. We purchase our coffee from Ngozi region. Farmers bring their cherry to the Ngozi washing station. From there the crop is processed through the washed, natural, or Honey process. The washing station also supports the farmers by participating in numerous outreach & support program which include; a goat and pig project, Farmer hub ( connecting farmers and buyers), Co-op management and guidance, soil analysis, crop diversification, gender inclusion workshops, village saving, and loan groups, health and nutrition workshops and distribution of fertilizer & coffee trees to farmers.
