Nyeri County in central Kenya is located on the southwestern flank of Mount Kenya stratovolcano. It has the highest coffee pedigree in the country due to its rich volcanic soil and proximity to the lush territory of Aberdare National Park.
This coffee is sourced from 1450 smallholder farmers of the Barichu Cooperative Society and processed at the Karatina Coffee Factory in Nyeri. Karatina is dedicated to helping member farmers improve their livelihoods through education, financial assistance, and by paying the highest yields in the region. In addition, funds set aside from the previous year's harvest provide cooperative members with access to pre-financing for school fees, access to farm inputs, and funds for emergency needs.
The resulting cup reminds us of mango, raspberry and honey.
